About Global Farming Digest.
Global Farming Digest was founded by Alvaro Garcia, DVM, Ph.D, with a clear purpose: to connect farmers everywhere with the knowledge they need to thrive.
My journey has taken me across continents and farming systems, from the vast expanses of commercial agriculture to the smallest family plots. Over the years I have served in many roles, academic extension specialist, private-sector consultant, USAID and US Grains Council volunteer, adult educator, and university and on-farm researcher. Each position offered not only a professional challenge, but also the chance to live and work alongside farmers in very different economic and cultural settings.
These experiences forged a simple but powerful lesson: research only matters when it reaches the farm in a form that farmers can use. Complex issues need to be translated into practical terms, and innovations must be adapted to the specific realities of each region, be it differences in scale, climate, markets, or resources.
At Global Farming Digest, this philosophy shapes every article we publish. Guided by this principle, the magazine interprets scientific advances in livestock, crops, forages, and the environment, and reframes them into clear, actionable insights. From large commercial operations to smallholders, the goal is the same: helping farmers build systems that are sustainable in the long run.
This blend of global perspective and local adaptation is what makes Global Farming Digest unique, and what ensures its content remains relevant to farmers and agricultural professionals everywhere.
